We usually get about 5 years of life out of most systems, desktops we can squeeze a little more, but that is only for regular user systems. I have servers and old desktops (definitely not laptops) that I have repurposed multiple times. My oldest Dell server is going on 11 years, and had it's role reassigned 3 times. First it was our Exchange server, then it was a backup/development SQL server, now it is a Linux-based web server.

Our oldest desktops are running as secondary DHCP servers, and a UPS shipping station, all purchased before I joined the company 11 years ago, so they are likely 12+ yrs old. And they are all Dell systems. They just keep chugging away!

How about using Wordpress the way we used Posterous? That is, students would blog on Wordpress each week instead of posting on posterous.

Try www.docs.com, where you login with your Facebook account and can create and share Word, Office and PowerPoint documents.

Andy,
In you workshop yesterday you talked about putting a word document on facebook. I do not have that in my notes and cannot find it in the handout. Could you tell me again where to start?
